Screwtape letters

Once again my boy KB has put me on to some fire. Here's a quick quote that jumped out to me. This is one deamon talking to another about how to win souls for the Great Father Below (Satan). These letters written are the premise of the entire book.

Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy's will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and ask why he has been forsaken, and still obeys.
